§ 8-58. Numbering system—Generally.

  • (a)

    Number assigned subject to street front. A whole number shall be assigned to each 25 feet of land along each side of every street front which now exists or which may be hereafter created in the town as follows:

    (1)

    North-south streets and ways. All north-south streets and public ways shall be numbered both northward and southward from Main Street and the Main Street line extended. Northward from Main Street, even numbers shall be on the west side of the street and odd numbers on the east side. Southward from Main Street, even numbers shall be on the east side and odd numbers on the west side of the street.

    (2)

    East-west streets and ways. The east-west dividing line for numbering shall be the railroad tracks, and a whole number shall be assigned for each 25 feet of land along each side of every street in both an easterly direction and a westerly direction from the railroad. Proceeding west from the railroad, even numbers shall be assigned on the south side and odd numbers on the north side. (Going east from the railroad, even numbers shall be assigned on the north side and odd numbers on the south side.)

    (b)

    System applicable to travel direction from Main Street alignment. This numbering system provides for even numbers on the left and odd numbers on the right when traveling east, or west from the former railroad right-of-way or when traveling north or south, from the Main Street alignment.
