§ 24-24. Collection and disposal service to be provided by the town; separation of certain refuse items.

  • (a)

    The town council shall appoint its agents, employees and franchisees to be in charge of and responsible for the disposal of all refuse as herein defined.

    (b)

    All persons having refuse within the town shall separate their refuse into separate piles or containers (as the case may be), as follows: all wood, metal, plastic, brush, cardboard, carpeting, and furniture and appliances shall be separated into separate piles according to category, and shall not be intermixed with each other. Garbage shall be separated and shall be placed in a garbage container.

    (c)

    Persons having furniture or appliances to be discarded shall notify the town clerk and arrange for an individual pickup of such furniture or appliances. Persons having such items may be subject to a separate charge to be placed by the town.

    (d)

    Any persons failing to abide by the provisions of this section, and who mix a load of the category of items set forth in section 24-21 with other items, shall be deemed to be in violation of this article, and shall be charged a separate fee by the town which fee shall be an amount equal to the actual dump fee paid by the town for dumping such mixed loads. Such dump fees shall be added to that customer's water bill and shall be paid in the same manner as payment of such water bill.
